Our Yearly Schedule of Events
Below
you will find a general overview of important events throughout the year.
Events are subject to change year to year and also depend on the age of your
child whether certain field trips are appropraite. (Our toddler programs
typically do not attend the number of off campus events our preschool program
does.)
September: Welcome to a new school year.
This is also our SILENT AUCTION kick off to get parents involved in our largest
fundraising event. (The Silent Auction takes place in June)
October: Visiting the Pumpkin Farm and our
Hero/Shero Parade/Magic Show are among October's highlights.
November: During the month of November.
the children prepare a Thanksgiving Feast with each class providing a menu
item. The feast is served buffet style. Thankfulness is the theme of this
November festivity.
December: This month is full of celebrations,
songs, and merriment. During this month we have a Night of Song that
includes all the holiday celebrations: Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and
Christmas. Our Song Specialists lead this event and the children are the stars.
The whole family is welcome, Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles, and friends are
encouraged to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and socialize
with Country Village families!
January: The first of the year is museum
month, with field trips to the Science
Center and Children’s
Museum. This month is rich in multicultural festivites through Chinese
New Year celebrations and the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
At Country Village we are very fortunate to have
The Meysen School, a Japanese Preschool, visit our center. The Japanese
teachers observe our students and teachers, talk with them and share practices,
games and supplies used in their school in Japan. It is a rewarding
experience for all involved.
February: Valentine's Parties are
a fun event this month. The children spend time making unique valentines
for their friends and family. Some classrooms take a trip to the post
office to mail their valentines. We honor US Presidents' by celebrating
Presidents' Day as well honoring African Americans during Black History
Month. February is also when we begin pre-registration for existing
families for our summer and fall programs.
March: Green, green, everywhere! In March
we enjoy all the new beginnings that come with spring. It is an exciting
time at Country Village as we welcome the change in
seasons. Dr. Seuss's birthday is special beginning to this month (March
3). Country
Village hosts an Open
House to prospective families and this is also when we open enrollment to the
public.
April: In April we enjoy longer days with daylight savings
time and warmer weather, which means more outside time- always
appreciated after a long wet winter. Eggs, eggs everywhere! We host
annual egg hunt where the children hunt for eggs filled with treasures.
During this month we all enjoy 'Buffet Day', a school wide potluck
lunch. Each year we choose a different theme to center our delicious
contributions around.
May: May Day baskets begin the month
filled with flowers from home. The children especially enjoy making gifts
for Mother’s Day. During May we celebrate the staff of Country Village
and all their hard work during 'Staff Appreciation Week'.
June: In June we begin to wrap up the
school year. The children receive a yearbook illustrating their year in
pictures at their classroom potluck. During the last week of school
the children in our preschool program spend the morning at a Beach
park. The older toddlers enjoy a picnic at Dragon Park where
they play on the big play structure. Parents are asked to join us on
these fun field trips. The last week in June is the
beginning of our summer program. We kick off the summer of fun
filled events with safety week!
July: During the month of July the children get ready for Big
Band Day, an exciting morning of classroom performances followed by a BBQ
lunch. The children practice hard for their moment in the spotlight and
the parents love to come watch their little ones shine. July is also the
month we celebrate the birth of America
and RED, WHITE and BLUE can be seen just about everywhere around the
fourth. Mercer Island's Summer Celebration
Parade takes place in the middle of July and Country Village
families and staff have proudly walked in this parade year after year. We
end the month with an art gallery of child creations.
August: CVDS Olympics allows the children to participate in field games where every
one who plays, wins! Country Fair is the big event in August. The children have spent a
lot of time making crafts and baked goods to sell to their friends and families.
An astrojump is on sight and their are games to play at booths run by our
school-aged summer campers'. And it just wouldn't be a fair without
pennies in a hay stack. It is a much anticipated day for all the
children.
